How much earlier would Kennedy have died if he'd used the new Obama health plan instead?

Let's not pretend that the health care Obama plans for the rest of us is as good as what Kennedy had.

craigya	Best Answer A panel of doctors would have deemed him untreatable if he were one of us. A normal citizen. Then they would have sent him home to die. If they used the Veterans Administration plan, they would not have even told him he was sick until he was on deaths door. But, as we all know, he was a government official and a multimillionaire. He needed no health care plan. He had money and position. Just like the rest of the so called advocate for the people. Yeah, the illegal alien people. Rest in peace Teddy, just like Mary Jo. Kennedy sure did like his own health care plan! He was able to have treatment for himself and for his family when they needed it. There is no way a government plan would have included all this treatment for someone who had a brain tumor like his and expected to live for at most a few months. Kennedy thought his life was worth prolonging...

Rep. William Delahunt, D-Mass., a longtime friend of Kennedyâ€™s, said Kennedy threw himself into helping find treatment options in much the same way he searched for cures when son Edward Jr. faced bone cancer at age 12 and daughter Kara had lung cancer five years ago.

He went so far was to pull Kara out of Johns Hopkins and brought her to a Boston hospital when he was not satisfied with her initial course of treatment. In his own case, he met on Friday with family and doctors at Mass General and decided then to head to Duke for treatment, Delahunt said.

He probably would have lived as long as my dad with brain cancer (approx same age) who was on medicare, the gov health program for seniors combined with a health insurance supplement from where he used to work. With No chemo, No surgery, he lived for 3 weeks following the diagnosis. In the interim, he lost all ability to care for self, and his speech became impaired to the point where no one could understand him, and he was so underweight his bones showed through his clothes, couldn't walk, and was completely dependent on our sister who is a nurse caring for him in her home.. Luckily due to her position, she was able to procure him a hospital bed in her home.. That's how it works folks.. Oh he did get some pain meds.. whoopee!!!

Under Obamacare, at his age, Kennedy's last surgeries would not have been deemed cost effective. They would have given him pain pills and told him to suck it up.

Maybe way earlier, insurance companies would of found an excuse not to cover him.

Like most Americans who are slaves to their jobs because of health insurance are one serious illness of bankruptcy. And they know very well if they leave their job, they better not have a pre-existing condition or else they won't be covered.

Insurance companies are doing such a good job brain washing some of the public to think that they are the solution when in fact they are just like Wall Street and ultimately, the way we are going will need a bail out too.

Wake up people!!! Stop letting your HMO, PPO decide for you. We must have a public option.

He found out a year ago last May and generally people with tumors like he had, last less than a year. It's likely that as a result of good treatments that he lasted longer than most.

Under Obamacare, and considering his age, were he not a person of importance, he probably would have been thrown to the dogs and might have lived for a few months.

................his weight? Minus
................his liver? Minus
................his position as a role model for young people? Minus
Where was the POSITIVE benefit to keep him alive, according to the death plan.....I mean health plan to be faced by regular seniors?
...But in another 24 hours I'm sure he would have pushed through some health bill specifically designed to help himself.

At least a year. Last June (2008) fat Ted had several million dollars of brain surgery at Duke Univ Hospital (a handpicked surgeon in a far distant state, NC not MA) -- does anyone really think that in Obamacare the DMV clerk who approves your treatment will allow you or me to get this type of care? Pick your own world renowned surgeon in a different state? Please.

ps: Enjoy Hell Ted - you earned it.

This question is irrelevant...becuase Kennedy would not have opted to use the public option...and no American would be forced under Obama's plan to use that either. If you like your private health care provider, you can keep you provider.
